We want the Money Belt for Women to be really fun and different, so we designed our own print, which was a lot of fun!
The basic idea is the same as the fabric we used for the prototypes, but we created our own map, and added the names of places that we have visited on our travels. Oh the memories!!!
Here is a little piece, a little preview of what it looks like. It seems a bit bright on my screen here, but we promise the end result will look great! :)

Maybe you might be inspired to add a few locations to your travel bucket list now?

How to catch taxis & rickshaws in Asia

Anywhere and anytime tourists arrive somewhere, you will usually have plenty of taxis or rickshaws waiting for you and the drivers can be very pushy. Don’t let them talk you into taking the first taxi available. Usually you will have plenty of choice, so take your time and assess your options first. Just act confident and pretend you know exactly where you need to go. Look around and find someone who is less pushy and happy to drive you anywhere. If your budget is tight, try to share the ride with some fellow travellers.

But before getting into the taxi or rickshaw, always find out what the ride is supposed to cost, and come to an agreement on the price. This will avoid any unpleasant surprises upon arrival. It is quite common that if they know you are a tourist, or have just arrived in a new place, they will try to charge you more. Check your guidebook, ask fellow travellers or ask your hostel about common prices, otherwise you will have no basis to negotiate and you will be paying way too much.

Be frank but polite whenever you negotiate. In a lot of countries, negotiating really is part of the game, and being good at it is something the locals respect. So do negotiate prices, but don’t overdo it either. Try to know what is fair and be fair. When you spend more time in a certain place, you will gradually learn the common and more correct prices and you will get ripped off less.

To avoid the transportation negotiation hassle all together, you can opt for taxis with a meter, if they are available. These are more common in the big cities. Before taking off be sure to check if the meter is well on zero or on the minimum amount. Once on your way, go with the flow, trust your instincts and act confident.

What to do when you arrive at your destination late at night.

I would recommend avoiding arriving at your new destination late at night. But I know, sometimes you have no choice. In those cases, make sure you have made sleeping arrangements beforehand. Tell the hostel or hotel where you arrive and at what time, and inquire about the best way to get to them at that time. They might offer to send a pick up car to come and meet you, which is the most comfortable and safe option. Or they can advise which taxi company or other kind of public transport to take and what a fair price would be for the ride. Try to have small change ready to pay for the ride, as sometimes taxi, rickshaw or bus drivers pretend not to have any change.

In some cities, some taxi companies will have a safer reputation than others. Especially when you need a ride at night, so try to find out which ones are more trustworthy by checking your guide book, asking your hostel, some fellow travellers or the locals. In some airports, the reputable taxi companies will have a booking desk inside the airport, before the exit. It will cost you more, but the added safety and advantages are well worth it. The people at the counter speak better English than the drivers usually do. It will be a lot easier to explain to them where you need to go and they will inform the driver about your destination. The price of the ride will be fixed and will be paid upfront at the counter, you can even use a credit card if you want, so you don’t need to worry about having the right change either. This option thus avoids any discussion about the destination and any financial hassle with the driver, a very welcome luxury when tired after a long day’s journey.
