Nina, solo female travel addict and expert, just returned from her latest solo trip to Laos & Cambodia. Last time she shared her experiences with us in this inspiring little interview. Now she’s back here at Wanderwave to tell us more about her latest adventures and about how she experienced using the Wanderbelt while being on the road.
1. Great picture Nina, where was it taken and how did it feel being there? Are you wearing the Wanderbelt on this picture?
Thank you :-) This picture was taken at the Preah Vihear Temple at the border with Thailand & Cambodia. What you can see is Cambodia & what you can’t see is the Wanderbelt! Yes, I'm wearing it, actually with two passports in it, can you tell??
2.Would you recommend other female travelers to travel to Laos & Cambodia? What makes these places unique and different from other parts of South East Asia where you’ve travelled before?
Personally I would say yes! But everyone is different, and you experience your trip on your own way.
But I love it over there. Although there similarities in each country, Laos has a special vibe. There’s stunning nature and it's really laid back. The people are very friendly and helpful, and not pushy at all. Cambodia on the other hand is more hectic but it is really diversified and alive. I loved to discover!
3.What was the most, special, fun or crazy experience of your latest female traveler trip?
Hmm, there we’re so many, but I think it was at the Preah Vihear Temple. Normally you’ll rent a minivan and everything will be arranged for you.. well not this time. Preah Vihear is not a big tourist attraction so we ended up in the back of a really old white Volvo with 8 adults and 1 child, 4 in the front and 5 in the back, plus a lot of luggage. Can you imagine? It was quite a trip. We found a place to stay nearby and found some guys who could take us on their motorbike to the Temple. Once there, we climbed slowly on the back of another motorbike towards the top of the mountain. For me this was a personal high because it was a scary ride, loose stones everywhere and the hill was very steep. I really had to trust my driver. But at the temple we we’re rewarded!! We were the only tourists, everything was so quiet, the sun was shining and the temple was majestic. And the view, o my god, amazing! I just stood there and watched. These moments stick; me… alone… far away… Try it and you’ll know ;-)
4. During this trip, you traveled for the first time with the Wanderbelt to help you keep your valuables safe. Did you find it as practical, comfortable and discreet as we here at Wanderwave claim it to be :-)?
Yes! For me it feels safe to wear my valuables close to my body and I loved the fact that it did not feel too warm or sweaty.
5. What did you like about the Wanderbelt the most?
That I can wear it on the side of my waist and it does not press into my belly all the time.
Plus it feels safer to me than any other money belt: when I wear my day-pack it is even more hidden and as an extra security it is hooked to my bra.
6. Is there anything on the Wanderbelt which could be further improved according to you?
Well maybe for an updated version. I found myself alternating between wearing the Wanderbelt on my right side and wearing it on my left side sometimes. While sleeping on a bus I like to switch the Wanderbelt to the most hidden side. But then I noticed that when I wear the Wanderbelt on the regular side of my body (being the right side), the closing buckle is neatly on the front, which is more convenient to open and less easy to open by someone else. However, when you wear it on the left side, the buckle is on your back, and this to me (personally) feels a little bit less safe. I know it’s a small chance since the Wanderbelt is still hidden under my shirt AND also attached to my bra… However, maybe for a next model, Wanderwave could find a solution for this and somehow integrate the possibility to turn the strap around and keep the buckle always on the front? But all and all, the Wanderbelt is going with me on the next trip, for sure!
